Investigating TV magazine shows
The One show
Episode shown 16/09/2014

Content:
Introduction to the show and telling what the show is going to be about, asking people about the hot topic in the news, talking to a guest,

Structure:
Title sequence
Introduction
Guest on the show ‘Piers Morgan’
Facts about the Scottish referendum
Shows someone in Scotland asking the Scottish people about their opinions.
Asking people to email in with their opinions.
Talking to the guest ‘Piers Morgan’, who is talking about his new book that is out.
Funny introduction to a bird


Presenters:
Matt Barker
Alex Jones

Camerawork:
-Close up to show certain (more important) information as well as pull focus which shows you the more important information.
-Pan when a woman is working on a computer as well as close up of face and hands.
-Mid shot of an interview to show both people
-Close up when the person is talking to show their feelings about the subject.
-Close up of important objects show what the most important bit of what they are talking about e.g. the pen; the most important bit being the actual votes.
- Long shot to show the studio of the presenters and guest on the sofa as well as the picture on screen, so you can see everything going off, however they also do close ups to you can see their emotions and feelings towards the subject they are talking about.

Use of effects and titles:
Opening sting title at the start.
Pull focus to show the main information.
They use a map with the effect of the man ‘Alex’ walking across it which is quite amusing.
Title sequence at the bottom of the clip ‘the one show’ then the location and that they are live.

Series four episode two

Top Gear

Content:
Reviews cars, power, price, performance, comparison, stars in a reasonably priced car, interviewing the celebrities (draws in celebrities fans) Lap around top gear track (brings entertainment and broadens the shows target demographic audience.
Have special adventures around the world, Vietnam, Spain and India (actually driving going somewhere showing cars specifics)
In studio and out to location places
In house challenge on the track for celebrity
Banter between male presenters for five minutes
Humour ‘Glass carpet not practical’
Out the norm, for example got nun driving a monster truck ‘sister wendy’

Structure:
Title Sequence
Balance of fun and talking makes viewers stay tuned in. (Informative and entertaining)
Jeremy Clarkson comparison of two cars pros and cons


Presenters and mes:

Camerawork:
The camera shots make the car more appealing, like long shots, close ups etc.
Focusing and un-focusing to show certain aspects of the car


Use of effects and titles:
Montage of shots of the car on the road, to show both different bits of car and the car at work.
Jump cuts to fit with the music fx

Blue Peter

Content: Presenter challenges, art and crafts ‘makes’, summer months they use the blue peter garden, activity in the studio or performance from a music artist or dancers



Structure:

- No closing credits, however instead there is a five second caption of Blue peter and the CBBC Logo.

- The famous blue peter badge for things you do for the show for example sending in a letter or drawing you will get a standard badge unless you already have one in which case you will be awarded with a silver blue peter badge, or you can win an orange blue peter badge by winning a competition, there are also so many other badges you can win within the show.

Wide angle shots make the studio look bigger
